The coat of arms was originally approved for the 250th Coast Artillery Regiment on 24 March 1925. It was redesignated for the 728th Antiaircraft Artillery Gun Battalion on 9 January 1952. The insignia was redesignated for the 250th Artillery Regiment on 17 March 1961. It was redesignated for the 250th Air Defense Artillery Regiment on 6 July 1972.
